A **Calculated** block (`/calculated`) is a variable that respondents never see. It holds a value that your [logic](/logic/calculations-and-scoring) works out, like a quiz score, an order total or a lead grade. The value is saved with each submission.

## Create a calculated field

1. Press `/`, type `calculated` and press <kbd>Enter</kbd>.
2. Name it, for example _Score_.
3. Choose its type: **Number**, **Text** or **Boolean** (true/false).
4. Optionally set a **Default answer**, which is the starting value.

## Change its value

Use [conditional logic](/logic/calculations-and-scoring) to update the field. For example, _if Question 1 is "Paris", add 1 to Score_. You can also write a formula in the [formula editor](/logic/formula-reference).

## Use the result

- Show it to respondents with [answer recall](/logic/answer-recall), for example _"You scored @Score out of 10"_.
- Choose an end page with it, for example _if Score ≥ 8, show "Expert"_.
- Find it as a column in your submissions, exports and integrations.
